The Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education is a social science unit in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech dedicated to advancing the priorities of the university and the college through applied social sciences, emphasizing teaching and learning in agriculture, leadership and social change, and community education and development 


Highlighting ALCE graduate student Inga Haugen:  The breadfruit project:  using superfood to combat malnutrition in Haiti.

Dr. Rick Rudd ( has been appointed faculty principal in the Leadership and Social Change Residential College.  This will be a three-year appointment, which includes living in residence in O’Shaughnessy Hall.  Rick will enhance the learning community environment through intellectual discussions, creative events for community engagement, and facilitation of additional faculty involvement.  

Congratulations to Hannah Sunderman and Austin Council for awards received in June at the  Association of Leadership Educators (ALE) conference.  Sunderman: Distinguished Research Poster Award, Outstanding Research Poster Award, Outstanding Research Paper Award, Outstanding Practice Paper Award, Distinguished Practice Paper Award.  Council: Distinguished Research Poster Award
